Vanfest 2004
Once through the gates we headed for the club plot that kind old Mr Bob Rye had reserved for us. We were slightly dubious as to its whereabouts (didn't want to be in the midst of noisy campers) but were very relieved and pleased with the plot we were given, after taking some time to find it. We were all colours of the rainbow on our club plot this year. Red van - Kevin, Sally, James & Charles; Yellow van - Paul (Polesden) Dearn; Green van - Mark, Di and Aisling; Blue van - Simon, Tracy, Sophie, Matt and Katie; Beige van - Mr H.
Friday evening saw us settling down waiting for the Davies's crew and then enjoying a nice Barbie.
Saturday morning arrived and we were off to scout around the vast number of trade stands. Just Kampers had a massive sale of end-of-line discounted stock and I think they just about managed to sell an awning to each and every one of us. I must admit they were very cheap selling at £50 a piece, although we squeezed this down a bit further, when normally they retailed at around £180!
The weather was a bit of a mixed bag of sunshine and showers and wind which was certainly on the increase once our evening BBQ got underway. By about 8:30/9pm we were virtually being blown out of our big green gazebo. We then got reports that awnings, tents and gazebos had been seeing flying around the campsite. I heard two very excited boys telling Paul Dearn that a gazebo had flown over their heads and was last seen heading towards the M5! The weather, as you know is certainly never predictable, and once morning dawned we realised it hadn't been very windy at all over night and we were not receiving the tail end of Hurricane Gilbert as we had once thought!
Our last day and we were off again around the trade stands in search of last minute bargains. After lunch it was time to pack up camp and set our sights on home. So thanks to everyone who came along and enjoyed another year's camping at Vanfest.
Roll on next year.

Skittles April 2004
It is normally just before Christmas when we visit The Wey Inn, Godalming, for a spot of skittles, but this year we decided to be a bit different. With all twenty-one of us at the pub we were split into four teams as follows:-

TEAM A
Astrid, Frank, Bob, Paul & Tony S
TEAM B
Tony B, Mel, Ric, Cathy & Chris
TEAM C
Sam, Elaine, Sandra, Si, Grant & Sally
TEAM D
Simon, Sarah, Barbara, Kevin & Fran

The games got under way once we had finished the pub grub and consisted of many weird and wonderful ways of chucking a bowling ball, Normal, other hand, on one leg, between legs (bottom in air) and any which way you want!
After all those rounds the scoring was pretty even, with not too much distance between the first and last placed team. But, in the end it was Team B who came up trumps, bowled a few mean balls and plumped for first place. A box of Kit-Kat Kubes was awarded to each lucky team member.
So all in all we enjoyed a good fun social evening with a few laughs here and there.
We did miss Paul and Jo though - come back next time!

Bad Camberg June 2003
For Vintage VW fans around the world there is one show which stands out from the rest. It takes place only once every four years and folks travel from far and wide for the VW Veteranen Treffen at Bad Camberg, Germany. This was the 7 th such meeting, and lived up to expectations. I have been attending this show since 1991 and have to say I cant wait for the next one which should be in 2007 ! There is no better show to see Classic VW's of all types and Very Rare Coach built cars.
The bugs, all pre '57 and the busses, pre'67 were pretty amazing with some of the rarest of the rare making an appearance. Hebmullers, Dannenhauer and Stauss and Rometsch coach built cars together with a few wartime vehicles and hundreds of split window bugs, cabrios, ovals - you name it, it was there somewhere! There was one of the oldest busses - a 1950. Plus a fire engine, milk truck and a ladder truck whose owner was getting plenty of practice scaling the fully extended ladder clutching visitors cameras.
Not only did show provide us with Wonderful vehicles to see the weather was absolutely gorgeous with temperatures in the low 90's.
